Georgia Tucker's Advena (2020) presents a virtual eco resort, a tropical digital environment responding to the spectator’s desire to escape their monotonous life of apocalyptic chaos and to discover an ideal Instagramable landscape of idyllic fauna, colourful architecture and warm beaches.
The work explores the ecological and social impact of tourism and its corresponding resorts, often used as an escape from a technologically driven urban life and the lived reality of the environmental crisis. Simultaneously, the work questions the corporate renovation and marketing of land as luxury oases.
In Ostium (2020), Tucker provides us with a rare indoor view of Advena, where the red criss-cross path that has marked our journey through the tropical land unveils the artificial nature of the explored territory and provides us with an ‘Exit’ route to escape our tour.
