Yehwan Song, a Korean-born, New York-based web artist, crafts unconventional internet spaces that challenge the user-centric norms of the web. Focusing on the overlooked discomfort of marginalized users, Song critiques technological utopianism and the homogeneity of digital interfaces.
Through innovative web interfaces, performances, and installations, Song's work provokes discussions on the political and social constructs of the web, advocating for the rights of users marginalized by their cultural, political, and linguistic identities. Song's art blurs the lines between online and physical realms, creating interactive experiences and visualizing digital phenomena in physical forms to explore new user-device interactions. Her artworks have been commissioned by the Istanbul Biennale, Seoul Biennale, and the Korean Pavilion of Venice Biennale, among others.
